Jody Larson Selected as Director of Conference Planning and Management

Jody Larson will serve as director of Iowa State University Conference Planning and Management beginning Feb. 26. She has been serving as CPM interim director since November 2022.

CPM provides customized conference and event planning and management services to assist Iowa State faculty, staff and students and external clients in hosting in-person and virtual educational conferences, trainings, and regional, state and national events. CPM manages conference planning details for events hosted at Iowa State and throughout Ames, the United States and abroad.

Larson has over 24 years of experience in event management, most of which has been spent in Iowa State’s conference services. Her diverse experiences range from hosting Special Olympics National Games and managing Iowa State’s display at Farm Progress Show to multiple campus-and-community-wide conferences and events, including every Odyssey of the Mind hosted in Ames since 2002.

“As CPM interim director, Jody orchestrated significant growth in the unit,” noted Carol Heaverlo, assistant vice president for operations with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.

She facilitated an expansion in the team of professional event planners, increased the number of events managed by CPM, broadened the client base and services offered, streamlined processes for increased efficiency, and successfully navigated a departmental rebrand. Through these efforts and more, CPM is able to showcase Iowa State University to conference attendees.
