Iowa Honors Top Pork Producers for Excellence and Sustainability

At the prestigious Iowa Pork Congress banquet in Des Moines, the Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA) announced the distinguished Master Pork Producers for 2023. This recognition signifies excellence in pork production, adherence to We Care® principles, and impactful contributions to the community.

2023 Master Pork Producers:

  • Aaron Hinkeldey, Aurelia
  • Aubrey Vorwald, Alta Vista
  • Dan Greenfield, Kamrar
  • Joe Kessenich, Le Mars
  • Joel & Laura Huber, Wellman
  • Marv & Sue Holtkamp, Donnellson
  • Ryan Bartachek, Masonville
  • Tom & Nate Huntley, Renwick

The Master Pork Producer Award, initiated in 1942, has now honored 1,516 Iowa pig farming businesses, highlighting their commitment to industry excellence.

2023 Honorary Master Pork Producers:

  • Jeff Kaisand: State veterinarian ensuring animal welfare and health across Iowa.
  • Ken Stalder (Posthumous): Esteemed animal science professor at Iowa State University.
  • Max Rothschild: Renowned genetics leader and researcher at Iowa State University.
  • Dennis and Lori Heemstra: Iowa Environmental Steward Award recipients for their commitment to sustainable practices.
  • Ernie Barnes: Master Seedstock Producer, recognized for his extensive career in pork associations.

Master Pork Partner Award:

  • Jim Hitchler: Recognized for positive impacts on Iowa pork production, representing Gengler Feed Service in Remsen.

Cory Van Gilst, IPPA Producer Outreach Director, emphasized the significance of these awards in recognizing the best the industry has to offer. The winners represent the diversity and dedication of Iowa's pig farms.

Nominations for the 2024 Master Pork Program awards will open in May, continuing the tradition of honoring excellence in Iowa's pork industry.
