Farm Couple Getaway offers refreshing weekend in Dubuque

By Andi Anderson

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach invites farm families to a unique and refreshing Farm Couple Getaway on February 21-22, 2025, at the Best Western Plus Hotel in Dubuque.

This program is designed to help farming couples strengthen their relationships, improve communication, and set meaningful family and farm goals.

The event begins at 12:30 PM on Friday and concludes at 3:15 PM on Saturday. Couples will enjoy a relaxing yet productive weekend discussing farm and family issues in a supportive environment facilitated by extension experts.

Activities will include goal-setting, improving communication, and working on farm transitions, making it a valuable experience for all attendees.

With costs for food, lodging, and other expenses covered by generous sponsors, the only requirement is a refundable $50 deposit per couple to secure the reservation. Space is limited to 10 couples, and registration operates on a first-come, first-served basis.

Past participants have praised the getaway as a valuable experience for both their families and farms. Larry Tranel, a dairy specialist with ISU Extension, described it as “a productive and delightful time to discuss important topics that contribute to the success of farms and families.”

Interested couples must register by February 7, 2025. Registration brochures are available from dairy specialists Larry Tranel and Jenn Bentley at their respective ISU Extension offices.

This getaway is a perfect opportunity for farm couples to relax, recharge, and strengthen their family and farm connections in a meaningful way.
