Feedlot Forum 2025, a key event for cattle feeders, will address the challenges of high-priced feeder cattle, inflation, volatile markets, and unpredictable weather.
Hosted by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, the forum takes place on January 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Terrace View Event Center in Sioux Center.
Beth Doran, a beef specialist with Iowa State, highlights the forum’s importance. “Feedlot producers agree that profitability has become harder to come by,” she noted, citing that returns on finishing a 1,500-pound steer have averaged just $28 per head over the past year.
The event will feature expert presentations on key topics:
Beef-on-Dairy Health and Carcass Quality by Garland Dahlke, Iowa Beef Center
Economics of Extending Days on Feed by Grant Crawford, Merck Animal Health
Genetic Merit Pricing Task Force by Dustin Puhrmann, ICA Feedlot Council
Livestock Risk Protection and Gross Margin Basics by Zach Tindall, Producers Livestock
Ag Market Outlook for 2025 and Beyond by Chad Hart, Iowa State University
Additionally, a trade show will showcase over 20 industry-leading businesses offering innovations in cattle nutrition, animal health, marketing, housing, and manure management.
Registration for the forum includes lunch and costs $25 per adult or $10 per student. Interested participants must register by January 6 through ISU Extension and Outreach Sioux County. For more information or to register, visit the conference website or call 712-737-4230.
