Iowa Pork Producers Show Appreciation to Cedar Rapids Community

Iowa Pork Producers Show Appreciation to Cedar Rapids Community

By Andi Anderson

In a heartwarming display of gratitude, Iowa pork producers, in collaboration with Tyson Fresh Meats, donated nearly 1,200 pork loins, providing approximately 24,000 pork meals to the Cedar Rapids community. This generous gesture serves as a testament to the strong bond between Iowa's pork producers and the communities they serve.

The donation, made on World Kindness Day, aligns with the ongoing efforts of Iowa's pork producers to express their appreciation to the communities that have supported them throughout the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. This marks the 10th "Thank You" stop hosted by the state's pork producers since 2021, with previous events held in nine Iowa cities that are home to major pork processors.

Half of the donated pork loins were entrusted to the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP), a nonprofit organization that caters to over 35,000 food-insecure individuals across a seven-county region. The remaining pork loins were distributed to area residents during a drive-thru giveaway at the Noelridge Aquatic Center parking lot, ensuring that everyone had the opportunity to benefit from this generous donation.

The pork donation was met with immense gratitude from local officials and residents. Marion Mayor Nicolas AbouAssaly commended the pork producers for their contribution, highlighting its significance to the community. Liz Mathis, the recently appointed economic development coordinator for the Hiawatha Economic Development Corp., expressed her deepest appreciation for the gift of pork, emphasizing its value in addressing food insecurity among community members.

This act of kindness by Iowa pork producers stands as a powerful reminder of the importance of supporting local food producers and fostering strong community ties. It is a testament to the unwavering commitment of Iowa's pork industry to providing nutritious and high-quality food while fostering a spirit of gratitude and generosity within the communities they serve.
