Iowa Corn Growers Champion E15 Fuel

Iowa Corn Growers Champion E15 Fuel

The Iowa Corn Growers Association has expressed strong support for a new amendment included in the House farm bill that would permanently allow nationwide, year-round sales of E15 fuel.

The association has worked for more than 15 years to achieve this goal, viewing it as a critical step for supporting farmers during a time of tight margins and market uncertainty.

E15 fuel contains 15 percent ethanol and is made primarily from corn. Expanding access to E15 is seen as a way to increase corn demand while offering consumers a more affordable, American-made fuel option.

If approved, the amendment would remove previous seasonal restrictions and provide long-term certainty for farmers and fuel retailers.

ICGA President Mark Mueller, a farmer from Waverly, emphasized the importance of the proposal for Iowa corn growers and the future of farming. He described the amendment as a long-awaited solution that addresses long-standing challenges.

“This legislation is the common-sense step we’ve been working towards for a long time. Iowa corn growers need the stability that nationwide, year-round E15 provides. This is more than just policy—it’s a lifeline that’s going to help increase corn demand and allow many of us to continue farming.”

Mueller also highlighted the broader benefits of the proposal, noting its value for drivers and its role in strengthening domestic energy production.

“This new proposal is a smart, pragmatic path forward, addressing past roadblocks that have previously stalled progress in Washington. E15 is win-win situation. It provides a more affordable, American-made fuel for drivers while supporting the farmers who grow it. It is a compromise that supports all stakeholders involved.”

The association also acknowledged the efforts of Iowa lawmakers who supported the amendment and helped advance it in Congress.

“We appreciate Representative Feenstra and our entire Iowa delegation for their continued leadership as they push for passage of E15. They’ve stayed focused on our energy independence and fought hard to make sure Iowa farmers’ voices were heard. Now, we ask that Congress work together to permanently pass this legislation.”

Overall, the amendment is viewed as a key opportunity to strengthen the agricultural economy, support rural communities, and promote renewable fuel use across the nation.
