American farmers feed the World Act backed by Key Groups
USAgNet - 09/22/2023

The U.S. Wheat Associates (USW) and the National Association of Wheat Growers (NAWG) have shown strong support for the recently introduced American Farmers Feed the World Act. This legislation aims to harness the power of American-grown wheat to alleviate worldwide hunger.

Senators from both sides of the aisle have come together to reintroduce the spirit of the Food for Peace program. The bill emphasizes using domestic produce instead of the taxpayer’s money to buy food from international competitors.

Peter Laudeman, from USW, highlighted the legislation's ability to deliver American wheat to those in need. Montana's wheat farmer and USW board member, Denise Conover, echoed the sentiment, expressing pride in supporting international food aid.

Brent Cheyne, NAWG President, stressed the importance of U.S. wheat, which makes up 20% of global calorie intake. He called for the reestablishment of American agriculture's role in international food relief. Brian Linin, also an advocate, emphasized the direct benefits of receiving American commodities over cash. The bill is set to be discussed further with the upcoming Farm Bill.
