Online Course: Preventive Controls for Animal Food
Iowa Ag Connection - 08/11/2020

A first-of-its-kind, all-online course will occur Aug. 18-19 leading to Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA) designation as a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual for the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Preventive Controls for Animal Food rule.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and the American Feed Industry Association are offering the course. The course fee is $300, and the registration deadline is midnight on Aug. 11. Class participants must also provide a Part 1 completion certificate by the registration deadline.

For more information and to register, go to www.aep.iastate.edu/animalfood/.

FSMA requires facilities processing any type of animal food (complete feed or ingredients) to comply with new current good manufacturing practices and to implement a written animal food safety plan developed and overseen by a "preventive controls qualified individual."

The course is intended for individuals who need to create FSMA Hazard Analysis Risk Based Preventive Control plans for their animal food facilities.

This is the FSPCA-designated Part 2 completion of the PCQI certificate class, to be taken after the fully online Part 1 available directly from FSPCA.
