Reynolds Drives Up-Skilling Conversation at American Workforce Policy Board
Iowa Ag Connection - 06/19/2019

Gov. Kim Reynolds talked about how the Future Ready Iowa Initiative, registered apprenticeships, and work-based learning opportunities continue to expand economic opportunities for Iowans during the second American Workforce Policy Advisory Board meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina.

"The entire country is facing a skills crisis, and we need to do everything we can to show people that there are multiple paths to a great career," said Gov. Reynolds. "Iowa is second to none when it comes to public-private partnerships, registered apprenticeships, and work-based learning opportunities. This success at the state level will continue to be a model for our efforts on the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board."

During the strategy session, board members discussed ways to encourage the private sector and educational institutions to combat the skills crisis by investing in and increasing demand-driven education, training, and re-training, including training through apprenticeships and work-based learning opportunities. Governor Reynolds serves on two subcommittees on the Workforce Advisory Board: A Subcommittee to Develop a Campaign to Promote Multiple Pathways to Career Success and a subcommittee to Modernize Candidate Recruitment and Training Practices.

Gov. Reynolds was joined by Advisor to the President Ivanka Trump, Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross as well as other members of the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board.

Earlier this year, Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross and Advisor to the President Ivanka Trump announced that Gov. Reynolds has been appointed to the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board. Established under Executive Order 13845, this Board will work directly with the National Council for the American Worker, leveraging the knowledge of its members to develop and implement a strategy to revamp the American workforce to better meet the challenges of the 21st century.
