Four Selected for Dressage Foundation Showcase at International Omaha
Iowa Ag Connection - 04/12/2018

Four of the nation's most promising dressage competitors have been selected to ride for German Master Hubertus Schmidt at the International Omaha. Schmidt will headline the Dressage Foundation Dressage Showcase on April 13 at 4 p.m. The International Omaha is a four-day dressage and jumping event running April 12-15 at the CenturyLink Center, site of last year's highly-acclaimed FEI World Cup Finals.

Selected to ride for the Olympic gold medalist are Heidi Basler, Missy Fladland, Emily Miles and Allison Dechant Nimmo.

Basler is originally from Lincoln, Neb., and now trains in Sanford, Fla. She is a United States Dressage Federation (USDF) Bronze, Silver and Gold Medalist with a Silver Freestyle Bar. She is also the 2017 USDF Region 3 Fourth Level Freestyle Champion. She has trained in dressage for 25 years and is currently schooling her horse, LeMode, a Zweibrucken, at Grand Prix level.

Fladland is from La Riata Ranch in Griswold, Iowa. In 2016 she was the high score award winner in the Adequan Global Dressage Festival and has placed highly at the prestigious Dressage at Devon. She was selected for the US Festival of Champions and placed fifth in the nation in 2015 on the dressage small tour. In the summer of 2017, she traveled to Europe to train and show with coach Katherine Bateson Chandler, where she competed in the International CDI show, Dressage at Hickstead.

Miles of Paola, Kan., will ride the 9-year-old Florentienne, an Oldenburg, in the Schmidt Dressage Showcase. Miles has trained the horse through the ranks from Training to Developing Grand Prix level. She rode Florentienne, or "ET", to Reserve National Champion as a 6-year-old and has been champion at Tryon CDI twice. She has ridden for Schmidt before and admires his "demanding and concise training methods".

Dechant Nimmo of Glenwood Springs, Colo., will ride Finley PCH, owned by Nancy Gooding of Plum Creek Hollow Farm in Sedalia, Colo., in the Dressage Showcase. Dechant Nimmo is preparing the horse for the FEI 6 year-old test. Dechant Nimmo is a USDF bronze, silver and gold medalist rider who has trained and competed as a professional since 2007. She has competed in numerous CDIs in both the large and small tour, and was part of the USEF's developing dressage program in recent years. Nimmo is excited to see Omaha "making such an effort to be a presence in an industry dominated by competitions and events in Florida and California."

The International Omaha also features a new concept in dressage competition, the Dressage Team Challenge, in which CDI level riders pair with junior, amateur and para riders, with a Finals in the Musical Freestyle determining the championship.

The high performance jumping sections of the show will feature George H. Morris in the Jumping Showcase, the $100,000 InIt2WinIt Speed Jumping Series Finals and the $130,000 International Omaha Grand Prix.

International Omaha also features a free Horse Discovery Zone for spectators, with a Gallery of Breeds, live demonstrations, hands-on learning areas and art and history exhibits. Vendors delight shoppers in the Boutique Shopping Village, and a Tailgate Lounge adjoins the warm-up arena. Lively bands provide after-performance entertainment and dancing and the opening ceremonies are highlighted each night by talented musicians from Opera Omaha and the Omaha Conservatory of Music. The CenturyLink Center Omaha houses all activity, including stabling and performance arena, under one roof.

The OEF, a certified 501(c)(3) not-for-profit foundation, has been committed to building a world-class equestrian experience in Omaha over the past several years. It created and developed The International Omaha, an internationally sanctioned equestrian show jumping and dressage experience now going into its sixth year. The successful growth of that event helped secure the OEF's bid to host the 2017 FEI World Cup Finals.
