Iowa Issues Enforcement Policy on Gas Price Volatility
Iowa Ag Connection - 09/08/2017

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey Thursday announced that the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship has issued a Notice of Enforcement Policy regarding gasoline volatility standards. The change waives the requirement to sell low volatility summer fuels and allows additional flexibility in blending fuels.

The policy states that the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship will enforce all regulatory requirements contained in Iowa Code Chapter 214A and the Iowa Administrative Rules promulgated thereunder consistent with the waiver issued by the U.S. EPA on Aug. 31. The waver is effective until Sept. 15.

"I am issuing this notice in order to ensure adequate fuel supply in the state of Iowa. I appreciate Administrator Pruitt issuing the federal waiver and we are issuing this notice of enforcement policy out of an abundance of caution and to further clarify the issue for Iowa fuel retailers and marketers. We are already seeing significant increases in fuel prices and it is important to give customers as many options at the pump as possible," Northey said.
