Kansas, Missouri Governors' Joint Letter Supports USDA Facility
USAgNet - 05/23/2019

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly and Missouri Governor Michael Parson sent a joint letter to U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue in bipartisan support of locating two USDA agencies in the Kansas City area.

Citing both states' deep ties to production agriculture and food processing, the Governors encouraged the USDA to select the Kansas City area as the new home for the USDA Economic Research Service and USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture.

"The diversity of agriculture in Kansas and Missouri is nearly unrivaled. Our commodity-based crops of wheat, corn, grain sorghum, rice, cotton, and soybeans are an engine of America's agricultural economy," the letter said.

The Governors also highlighted the USDA facilities already located in their respective states, as well as the companies and talent concentrated in the Animal Health Corridor. "Missouri and Kansas are home to Risk Management Headquarters, Farm Service Agency Operations Office, National Agricultural Statistics Service Operation Division, the Agriculture Marketing Service Offices, and soon to be home to the new National Agro-Biodefense Facility."

Governors Kelly and Parson look forward to partnering to bring these USDA agencies to the Kansas City area.
